A Poem

There has to be a way to reach you

I know I can do it if I try

There must be something I can do

That will answer the question why

It has to come to me on the wind

Without warning, without wealth

Looking behind me, I sinned

I didn’t keep my promise of stealth.

I cannot help this confession

It bubbles out of my mouth

I try to quell this obsession

But my memory travels south

Azure waters and brilliant skies

Warmth in my face, in my hair

Laughter mingling with lies

It was already happening there.

I keep my eyes closed here

I listen to the rain on the roof

The feeling of hope is near

I don’t need any proof

That I will find you one day

Your mouth honest, your eyes wise

I will have come all this way

Just to watch how time flies.
